The White Terrazzo Moon Bowl is a low, rounded fibrecement planter in a white terrazzo look finish, sold in 210mm, 310mm, 420mm and 550mm. A bowl this wide and this shallow gives you surface area rather than depth, which is what layered and sculptural planting needs. It is light enough to lift when planted, and a drainage hole is already cast into the base.

Why you'll love it

  • A planting surface, not a hole. The low form suits several plants arranged together where an upright pot would take one.
  • Lightweight fibrecement. The presence of cast concrete without the weight, so it can sit on a table, a bench or a balcony floor.
  • Drainage built in. A cast hole keeps shallow mix from staying sodden, which matters more in a bowl than in a deep pot.
  • Neutral white with texture. The terrazzo speckle carries detail up close and stays quiet from across a courtyard.

Sizes and what fits in them

Four sizes, and the gap between them is real: the largest holds more than ten times the mix of the smallest.

  • 210mm. About 150mm tall, holding 4 to 5 litres. Succulents and compact decorative plants.
  • 310mm. About 230mm tall, holding 12 to 15 litres. Mixed foliage and low growing feature plants.
  • 420mm. About 300mm tall, holding 28 to 32 litres. Grasses, or three or four plants layered together.
  • 550mm. About 380mm tall, holding 55 to 65 litres. A sculptural centrepiece with real root volume behind it.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Fibrecement with a textured white terrazzo surface. Seal it before planting: that slows water moving through the wall and keeps the white from staining at the soil line.

Outdoors. Rated for indoor and outdoor use. We hold no frost rating for it, so where hard frosts settle it is worth moving under cover for winter, and a shallow bowl of mix chills faster than a deep pot does.

Drainage. One hole in the base, no saucer included. Indoors you will want a saucer or tray under it, because a shallow bowl drains quickly and drains all at once.

What to expect when it arrives

Bowls ship empty, packed on their own to protect the rim, which on a wide low form is the most exposed part. The 550mm arrives larger than most people picture, so measure the bench or paved area first. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
