White Evolvulus (Evolvulus pilosus 'White') is a low, spreading groundcover about 30cm high and up to 1m wide, with soft silvery-green foliage. From summer to autumn it is covered in white flowers that look like small morning glories. The neat leaves are soft to touch and often turn soft, spicy colours in autumn.

Where it works best

Groundcover and mass display. Plant 50cm apart in groups for a drift of white flowers. It spreads to about a metre, so it fills the gaps between plants over a season.

A loose stepover hedge. Used unclipped along a path, it makes a soft, informal edge in cottage gardens and informal areas.

Containers. In a pot or hanging basket the foliage cascades over the edge, and the flowers show from every side.

Growing White Evolvulus in Australia

Position and climate. Full sun suits it best. Protect it from frost.

Soil. Plant in free-draining soil rich in organic matter. In containers, use a potting mix rich in organic matter.

Water and feed. Mulch and water well. It tolerates dry periods and thrives with additional water.

Pruning. Prune after flowering to keep the plant neat and encourage fresh growth.
