White Beauty Aloe (Aloe hybrid 'White Beauty') is a compact rosette succulent 20 to 30cm tall, with thick, juicy, toothed leaves that start minty green and mature to silvery-grey, marked with a pixel-like mosaic of white. Mature plants in good health send up tall stems of coral bell flowers. It suits dry gardens, coastal gardens and large containers.
Why you'll love it
-
A pixelated pattern. White square markings across the leaves give a mosaic finish that looks hand painted.
-
Minty to silver. The colour matures from minty green to silvery-grey, so the plant changes as it ages.
-
Coral flowers. Tall flower stems carry coral bell-shaped blooms on mature plants in good health.
-
Compact and easy. It is easy care and compact, which makes it ideal as an indoor plant or a waterwise garden feature.
-
Good in tough spots. It is recommended for xeriscaping, dry gardens and coastal gardens.
Where it works best
Dry gardens and xeriscapes. Plant it as a dramatic accent, and give it room to spread and grow, at least 40cm from its neighbours.
Coastal gardens. It suits sandy, fast draining coastal sites. Give it plenty of light.
Large containers. A wide pot lets the rosette spread, and the coral flower stems stand clear of the foliage.
Growing White Beauty Aloe in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun or part shade. It will grow in subtropical, warm temperate, Mediterranean and arid gardens. Shelter it from frost, and in colder districts keep it in a pot you can move under cover.
Soil. A sharply draining soil or potting mix is essential. Keep the crown above the soil surface so that water cannot gather in the centre.
Water and feed. Water weekly in warm weather. In winter, keep it drier so the crown does not rot. Feed in spring with organic liquid fertiliser at half strength.
Pups and tidying. It spreads as pups form, so allow room to grow. When a pot gets crowded, separate the young plants to pot on or share, and snip spent flower stems off at the base.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell White Beauty Aloe as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives as a small rosette in minty green, and the white mosaic and silver tones strengthen as it matures. Plant it in a sunny, free draining spot with the crown clear of the soil. Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Does the colour change?
Yes. The leaves are light green when young and mature to silvery-grey, always with the white mosaic markings.
Why should I keep it drier in winter?
Cool, wet weather can rot the crown of the rosette. Reduce watering from autumn and keep water out of the centre.
Is White Beauty Aloe safe for cats and dogs?
No. Aloes are toxic to dogs and cats if chewed, so keep this one out of reach on a shelf or in a protected bed.
