Twister Select Patio Rose (Rosa 'Twister Select') is a compact, disease-resistant rose that flowers almost all year. It grows to about 80cm tall and just 40cm wide, so it fits balcony pots, narrow borders and tight corners. The large, 10cm double flowers open yellow and shade to orange and red at the petal edges.
Why you'll love it
-
Big flowers on a small plant. The 10cm double blooms shift from yellow through orange to red at the petal edges as they open.
-
Flowers for most of the year. It was bred to bloom almost all year round, with the heaviest display through the warmer months.
-
Disease resistant. Bred for resilience, with strong green foliage. Give it good air movement in humid districts, as with any rose.
-
Narrow and neat. At 40cm wide it fits where a normal rose would not.
-
Handles heat and humidity. It tolerates heat and humidity, and comes through frost once mature.
Where it works best
Patio and balcony pots. Use a pot with good drainage, especially for winter, and water into the soil rather than over the leaves.
Mixed flower beds. The upright, narrow habit slots between perennials at the front of a bed without crowding them.
Mass planting. Plant 40cm apart for a dense block of colour. At that spacing a yearly trim with shears or a whipper snipper is the quickest prune.
Growing Twister Select Patio Rose in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun gives the most flowers, though it also grows in part shade. It copes with heat and humidity and comes through frost once mature, so it suits subtropical, warm temperate, cool temperate and Mediterranean gardens. In cold winters it drops its leaves, while in mild gardens it keeps many.
Soil. Free-draining soil rich in organic matter. In pots use a quality potting mix and make sure water can drain freely, because winter wet is the main risk to container roses.
Water and feed. Water regularly into the soil, not over the leaves, for the first 12 months so a good root system forms. Apply a controlled release fertiliser and a fresh layer of mulch after pruning.
Pruning. Prune once a year after the frosts have gone, cutting back by a third to a half. Secateurs suit a single plant, while shears or a whipper snipper handle a mass planting quickly.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Twister Select Patio Rose as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly once it is in the ground. Tube-grown roses are small to begin with, so plant them promptly into prepared soil or a good pot, water in well and expect them to build up through the first season.
The tube is supplied by our grower, so stock comes and goes. If it shows as sold out, the grower has none at the moment: press the notify button on the page and we email you the day it returns.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
How much pruning does it need?
One cut a year, after the frosts have gone, taking the plant back by a third to a half. Follow it with controlled release fertiliser and mulch.
Does it grow well in humid areas?
Yes. It is heat and humidity tolerant and bred to be very disease resistant, though good air movement and watering at the base keep any rose cleaner.
Is it safe around pets?
Roses are not toxic to cats or dogs, but the thorns can scratch, so place pots where animals will not brush past them.
