The Sureguard Scarecrow is a motion activated sprinkler that fires a short burst of water, noise and movement when an animal walks into its detection zone. It works by startling rather than harming, so animals learn the boundary and stop testing it. No mains power, no chemicals.
Position the unit facing the area you want protected, at roughly the height of the animal you are deterring, and connect it to your water supply. Choose 24 hour cover or night only, then walk the zone to check where it triggers and where the spray lands. Move it every week or two: a fixed pattern is easy for a resident animal to route around.
It runs on two AA alkaline batteries, which can last up to 12 months, so check them each season. Follow the instructions supplied with the unit for sensor range and spray adjustment.
Vegetable gardens. Possums working a bed overnight will take a season of growth in a week, and meeting them at the edge beats netting every plant.
Lawns and garden beds. Wallabies, deer, cats and dogs are all moved on by the same burst, which helps where the problem is grazing or digging generally.
Pools and ponds. Ducks and birds that have settled on water are persistent, and an unpredictable spray along the edge breaks the habit.
