StoneLite Romano Low Bowl

The StoneLite romano low bowl is a wide, shallow planting bowl cast from glass-reinforced concrete, with the surface of cast stone at about a third of the weight. It is made in two sizes, 33 x 14cm holding 6 litres and 42 x 18cm holding 12 litres, in 11 finishes. A low bowl gives you width instead of depth, which is what a succulent group or a table centrepiece wants.

Why you'll love it

• Wide planting face, low profile. At 33cm or 42cm across and only 14cm to 18cm tall, it sits below the eye line, so it dresses a table without blocking the view behind it.
• Light enough to move one handed. Three kilograms empty for the small bowl, five for the large, so you can rearrange a group on a whim.
• Eleven finishes with a guarantee. Raw concrete is the value option; the Dulux Weathershield sprays above it carry a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking.

Sizes and what fits in them

Two sizes, measured as outside diameter by height.

• 33 x 14cm, 6 litres, 3kg. A single echeveria group, a compact fern, or seasonal colour on an outdoor table.
• 42 x 18cm, 12 litres, 5kg. A mixed succulent planting, or a low grass with trailing plants over the rim.
• What it will not do. Neither size holds enough mix for a shrub or a tree, and 6 litres in full sun dries quickly.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete, cast and hand finished. It shrugs off knocks that crack ordinary pots, and tone varies slightly between pieces.

Outdoors. The sprayed finishes carry the 15 year Weathershield guarantee; raw concrete is uncoated. We do not publish a frost rating for this range, so where frosts are hard, keep the bowl off the ground over winter.

Drainage. Cast with drainage holes. Keep them clear, raise the bowl on feet, and screen the holes with fibreglass flyscreen, not fabric or geofabric, which clogs. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel and a premium potting mix, never garden soil. Indoors, stand it on a saucer.
