Royal Rambler Grevillea (Grevillea 'Royal Rambler') is a low native groundcover, about 0.3m tall and 1.5m wide, that establishes fast and carries deep pink flowers through the year. It is a cross between Royal Mantle and Bronze Rambler, and it inherits their spreading habit. Use it to cover a steep bank or a wild corner without fuss.
Why you'll love it
-
Quick to establish. Fast establishing and spreading, it covers ground sooner than most low shrubs.
-
Deep pink flowers all year. Rich pink brushes appear through the year, and they last longest in a warm, sunny position.
-
Coppery new growth. Fresh leaves come through in copper tones, which adds colour even when the plant is not in heavy flower.
-
Tolerates frost and drought. Once it is established it copes with both, so it suits exposed sites.
-
Food for nectar feeders. Like other native grevilleas, it is loved by nectar-feeding birds.
Where it works best
Steep embankments. Plant 1m apart across the slope and let it ramble down. The spreading stems cover bare soil and hold the surface together.
Wilder parts of the garden. It is ideal for a back fence or the edge of a bush garden, where you want cover without constant clipping.
Low borders and mass planting. Set 1m apart, plants knit into a continuous carpet about 0.3m high. Closer planting wastes plants, because each one reaches 1.5m wide.
Growing Royal Rambler Grevillea in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun or part shade, with the longest flowering in a warm, sunny spot. Established plants tolerate frost and drought, so it suits subtropical, warm temperate, cool temperate and Mediterranean gardens.
Soil. Well drained soil. Avoid hollows where water collects, and work coarse material into heavy ground before planting.
Water and feed. Water regularly through the first 8 to 12 weeks until established. Feed with a slow release native fertiliser when buds form, with phosphorus under 3 per cent, because grevilleas are phosphorus sensitive.
Pruning. Prune after flowering to promote more blooms and dense growth, and to control how far it spreads. A light trim is enough.
What to expect when it arrives
Royal Rambler Grevillea is sold as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives small and settles fast, then begins to spread across the soil as the weather warms.
Tube stock comes from our grower and supply is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
How fast does Royal Rambler spread?
It is fast to establish and reaches about 1.5m wide, so plants set 1m apart should knit together as they mature.
Does it flower in shade?
It grows in part shade, but it flowers for longer in a warm, sunny position. Give it as much sun as you can.
Do I need to feed it?
A light feed of slow release native fertiliser when buds form is enough. Choose one with phosphorus under 3 per cent, since grevilleas are sensitive to it.
