Premium Glaze Dimple Jar

The Premium Glaze Dimple Jar is a large double fired ceramic jar in a single size, 70 x 87cm, offered in ten hand applied glaze colourways. The dimpled wall breaks up light across a big surface, which stops a jar of this scale reading as a plain drum. At 32 kg empty it is a permanent placement, not a pot you move with the seasons.

Why you'll love it

• Surface that earns its size. The dimpled wall throws shadow across the jar through the day rather than sitting flat.
• Glaze with real depth. Colours are applied by hand then double fired, which is why they read as deep rather than painted on.
• Colour that holds. These glazes are built to keep their colour through Australian summers and frosty mornings, and the double firing gives frost resistance.
• Drainage already there. It arrives with drainage holes, so there is no drilling into fired ceramic.

Sizes and what fits in them

One size only, measured as outside dimensions, diameter by height.

• 70 x 87cm, 32 kg empty. Room for a small tree, a mature palm or a tall architectural specimen, with soil volume to hold it through summer.
• Planted low instead. Succulents or a spilling groundcover leave the dimpled surface as the feature.
• Left empty. At 87cm tall it works as a standalone piece beside a pool or at the turn of a path.

Choose from Aqua, Blue Cloud, Black, Copper, Graphite, Heavy Metal, Lava, Opal Green, Sand or Sapphire.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Double fired ceramic under a hand applied glaze. Glazes vary piece to piece, and that variation is the point rather than a defect.

Outdoors. Made for outdoor positions, colourfast through summer and frost resistant.

Drainage. Keep the holes clear and raise the jar on feet so water escapes freely. Cover the holes with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add a 50mm layer of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil. Choose plants suited to containers: aggressive roots can damage any planter.

What to expect when it arrives

Jars ship empty and packed to travel alone, with dispatch in 2 to 5 business days. Orders are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. A 70 x 87cm jar is awkward rather than simply heavy, so plan on two or three people, a firm level base and a clear path.
