Peach Clivia (Clivia miniata 'Peach') is a shade-loving evergreen with an uncommon colour: gentle pastel peach-apricot trumpet flowers on tall stems in late winter and early spring. It forms a clump about 50cm tall and 60cm wide, and it is as happy in a pot indoors as it is under a tree.
Why you'll love it
-
An uncommon colour. Soft peach-apricot is a quiet change from the orange most clivias carry, and it sits well with cool greens and warm timber.
-
Evergreen all year. The long green strappy leaves look good between flowerings, so the clump is never an empty patch.
-
Red seedpods follow. After the flowers, cherry-like red seedpods add another round of colour.
-
A houseplant that works. It grows well in a pot indoors and suits interior planting in bright, filtered light.
-
Tough once settled. It takes dense shade and tolerates dry conditions once established, though it flowers less in the deepest shade.
Where it works best
Shaded garden beds. Plant 50cm apart under trees or along a shaded wall for a drift of strappy foliage, with the peach flowers rising above it each spring.
Pots at entries and on verandas. A single large pot makes a feature. Keep it out of hot afternoon sun.
Indoors. Grow it in bright, filtered light and treat it as a long-term houseplant that flowers when the room cools in winter.
Growing Peach Clivia in Australia
Position and climate. Filtered light suits it best. Dense shade is tolerated but cuts flowering. Protect it from frost, cold and hot afternoon sun. Outdoors it suits subtropical and warm temperate gardens, and in colder places it is best in a pot you can move under cover.
Soil. Any reasonable garden soil, or a good potting mix in a container. Reapply mulch each spring.
Water and feed. Water regularly until it settles, then back off, since established plants tolerate dry conditions. Giving less water in the cooler months is known to encourage more flowers in spring. Feed once each spring with a liquid fertiliser at half the regular strength.
Pruning. Remove spent flower stalks to encourage continued flowering. Lift and divide every 3 to 4 years, or when the clump becomes large.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Peach Clivia as tube stock and 200mm pots in packs of 6. Tube stock is a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly, and the 200mm pots carry more leaf from day one. Clivias take time to fill out, so expect healthy leaf growth in the first year and flowers once the clump has matured.
Tube stock is grown for us and availability moves around. A sold out tube just means the grower has none today, and the notify button on this page emails you the day it returns.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Can I grow it indoors?
Yes. It makes a good houseplant in bright, filtered light. Keep it out of hot sun, and give it less water through winter to help it flower.
How much light does it need to flower?
Filtered light gives the best flowering. It will grow in dense shade, but you will see fewer flower stems there.
Is it safe for pets?
No. Clivia is toxic if eaten, including the red seedpods, so keep it away from pets and small children.
