Meghan Geraldton Wax (Chamelaucium uncinatum 'Meghan') is an Australian native shrub that grows up to 2m tall and 1.5m wide and carries cool, two-tone pink flowers with warm musk-pink centres from mid spring. Developed at Kings Park & Botanic Garden in Perth for pot growing and cut flowers, it flowers over a long period and suits a deck as well as a garden border.
Why you'll love it
-
Two-tone pink flowers. Cool pink petals surround a warmer musk-pink centre, which gives the blooms depth without looking heavy.
-
A long flowering run. It flowers over an extended period, from mid spring, so it earns its space for weeks.
-
Bred for pots and the vase. Developed for container growing and cut flowers, it works on a deck as well as in the border.
-
Fine, soft foliage. The slender needle-like leaves make a light backdrop for the flowers.
-
Tough once settled. Established plants handle dry spells and light frost.
Where it works best
Deck and courtyard pots. Choose a large, heavy pot with free draining native mix and keep it in full sun. A pot controls the size and avoids soil problems.
Garden borders. Plant 1.5m apart as a feature shrub, or closer if you want a flowing line of colour. It combines well with grey foliage plants.
Cut flower gardens. Grow a plant or two for bunches, and the cuts become a light prune that keeps the shrub dense.
Growing Meghan Geraldton Wax in Australia
Position and climate. Grow in a sunny to partly shaded position, with full sun best for flowers. It suits Mediterranean, warm temperate and arid climates, and tolerates light frost. It prefers low humidity, so in moist subtropical districts choose a breezy position and watch drainage.
Soil. Light, free draining soil is best. In containers, use a native potting mix with extra grit, and never let the pot stand in water.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly for around 12 weeks to establish. Afterwards it is drought resistant, though a potted plant needs more water than a planted one. Feed yearly with a slow release native fertiliser.
Pruning. Prune lightly after flowering to encourage new growth and dense flowering next season. Avoid cutting into old wood.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Meghan Geraldton Wax as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives small, so plant it into free draining ground or pot it on into a larger container and keep it evenly moist through the first summer. Flowering builds as the plant gains size.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Will it flower well in a pot?
Yes, it was developed for pot growing. Give it a large pot, sun and free drainage, and it will flower over a long period each spring.
How long will it last?
Waxflowers are not long-lived shrubs. Good drainage and a light prune after flowering keep Meghan healthy for many seasons, often eight to ten years.
Is it suited to humid areas?
Waxflowers prefer low humidity. In humid climates give it a raised bed or a pot, a sunny spot and plenty of airflow.
