Jack Weed Mat Pins are heavy duty galvanised steel pins that hold weed mat and landscape fabric flat against the ground. Each pin has a chiselled point that pierces fabric cleanly and drives into firm soil without a pilot hole, and they are supplied twenty to a pack. They are the fixing to use where plastic pegs pull out: compacted ground, gravel beds and windy open sites.
Lay the weed mat out and let it relax in the sun before pinning, so it settles flat instead of bubbling later. Overlap adjoining sheets by a hand width, then pin through both layers at once along the seam. Space pins roughly every 50cm for the best holding strength, closing that up on exposed corners, edges and uneven ground.
Drive each pin by hand pressure where the soil is soft, or with a mallet where it is not, until the head sits flush against the fabric. Finish by spreading mulch or decorative stone over the top: it hides the heads, protects the fabric from sunlight and stops anyone catching a foot.
