HibisQs Adonicus Double Yellow Hibiscus (Hibiscus 'HibisQs Adonicus Double Yellow') brings golden yellow double flowers to a compact bush about 1.5m high and 1m wide. The flowers are large for the size of the plant and cover the shrub through the warmer months. As a dwarf HibisQs hibiscus it suits a low hedge, a mass planting or a patio pot.
Why you'll love it
-
Golden double flowers. Frilled, many-petalled blooms in warm golden yellow stand out against the green leaves and light up a sunny corner.
-
Plenty of bloom. The flowers cover a compact bush, so the effect is of a plant in full dress rather than a few blooms on a big shrub.
-
Stays in scale. At about 1.5m by 1m it suits beds beside paths, steps and entries where a bigger shrub would crowd the space.
-
Fits many jobs. Grow it in a row as a dwarf hedge, in a group for massed colour, or alone in a pot as a feature.
-
Sensible care. Water well, mulch, and prune and fertilise after the spring flowering. It does not ask for more.
Where it works best
Massed planting. Plant 70cm apart in staggered rows or drifts. The bushes meet at about 1m wide, and a block of golden flowers shows up even from the street.
Dwarf hedge. In a single row at the same 70cm spacing, the plants form a flowering border up to about 1.5m high, which is enough to define a path or front fence.
Sunny deck or patio. A large pot on a sheltered, sunny deck keeps the yellow flowers close at hand. Pots need regular watering, so check them often in summer.
Growing HibisQs Adonicus Double Yellow Hibiscus in Australia
Position and climate. Give it a sunny, sheltered spot in the warmer parts of Australia, away from strong wind and exposed sites. It enjoys humidity and needs protection from frost. Where winters are cold, plant it in a container and bring it under cover until the weather warms.
Soil. A free draining soil rich in organic matter is best, and it should never be left over wet. When potting, add a mix rich in peat moss or humus at planting time.
Water and feed. Mulch and water well through the growing season. Feed it after flowering in spring so it has the strength to carry the next flush.
Pruning. Shape lightly after the spring flowering. Because it is a dwarf, it needs far less cutting than a standard hibiscus.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell HibisQs Adonicus Double Yellow Hibiscus as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. Tubes are a low cost way to plant a hedge or a bed of dwarf hibiscus. Plant them out in warm weather and water them in well.
Our grower does not always have tube stock. If the tube is sold out here, press the notify button and we will email you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
When should I prune it?
Prune after flowering in spring, then fertilise. Doing both at once helps the bush reshoot and build for the next flowering.
What potting mix does it need?
A free draining mix rich in organic matter, ideally with peat moss or humus added at planting. It should never sit wet.
Will it grow in a cool climate?
It needs protection from frost. In cooler gardens, grow it in a pot in a sunny spot and move it under cover in winter.
