Black Terrazzo Moon Bowl

The Black Terrazzo Moon Bowl is a low, wide fibrecement planter with a black terrazzo look finish and a built in drainage hole. It runs from a 210mm bowl for a single succulent up to a 550mm bowl that takes a full layered planting, indoors or out. A bowl gives you width instead of height, which is what you want on a table, a step or a low wall.

Why you'll love it

• Width for layered planting. The shallow, open form lets you plant three or four things together, so a single bowl carries a whole arrangement.
• Light enough for elevated spots. Fibrecement weighs much less than solid concrete, which matters on a balcony or a wall top.
• Terrazzo flecking in black. The speckled texture reads close up and holds interest at ground level, where a flat finish disappears.
• Drilled for drainage. A drainage hole is built in, which matters more in a shallow bowl than a deep pot, with less mix to buffer overwatering.

Sizes and what fits in them

Four sizes are stocked, named by diameter.

• 210mm. About 21cm across and 15cm tall, roughly 4 to 5 litres. A tabletop bowl for one succulent or a small group.
• 310mm. About 31cm across and 23cm tall, roughly 12 to 15 litres. Mixed foliage and low growing feature plants.
• 420mm. About 42cm across and 30cm tall, roughly 28 to 32 litres. Room for grasses or a small layered arrangement.
• 550mm. About 55cm across and 38cm tall, roughly 55 to 65 litres. The size for a sculptural planting by an entry or a pool surround.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Fibrecement with a textured black terrazzo look finish. Clean it with a damp cloth or a rinse.

Outdoors. Rated for outdoor use. We recommend sealing with a suitable masonry sealant before planting, which is standard for fibrecement and helps the finish last outside.

Drainage. A drainage hole is built in and no liner is needed. No saucer is supplied, so use a tray indoors. Shallow bowls dry faster than deep pots, so check the mix with a finger every few days in summer.

What to expect when it arrives

Bowls ship empty and are packed for freight, with plants and mix sold separately. The flecked finish varies from piece to piece, so two bowls bought together coordinate rather than match exactly. Seal the bowl, let it dry, then plant it in position.
