Aussie Salute Pink Fan Flower (Scaevola aemula 'Aussie Salute Pink') is a native fan flower bred to grow more upright, bushy and leafy than the usual trailing types. It reaches 20 to 30cm high and 40 to 50cm wide, with pastel pink flowers that keep coming all year in frost free districts and through spring where frosts are heavy.
Why you'll love it
-
Flowers for months. Fan shaped pink flowers cover the plant and start almost immediately, and in frost free spots it flowers year round.
-
Upright and bushy. It is bred to stand up and show its flowers in a mixed border, rather than just trailing along the ground.
-
Native toughness. Frost and drought tolerant once established, so it copes with most of the country.
-
Quick cover. Fast growing coverage makes it a ready answer for bare soil and underplanting.
-
Little work. Once established it needs only an occasional prune to stay tidy.
Where it works best
Cottage borders and patios. The pastel pink works with silvers, blues and whites. Plant 40cm apart in a border so the mounds meet.
Mass groundcover and underplanting. Plant 40cm apart under shrubs or across a sunny bank for fast, flowering cover.
Rockeries and hanging baskets. Its leafy growth softens rock edges and fills a basket with colour through the warm months.
Growing Aussie Salute Pink Fan Flower in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun gives the most flowers. It flowers year round in frost free districts and in spring in heavy frost areas, and it tolerates frost once established, so it suits subtropical gardens through to the cool temperate south.
Soil. Well drained soil suits it best. In heavy ground, plant on a low mound or in a pot.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly until established, usually around 12 weeks, after which it tolerates drought. A slow release fertiliser in spring supports a long flowering season.
Pruning. Prune as required to maintain tidy growth, trimming back straggly stems to keep the plant dense.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Aussie Salute Pink Fan Flower as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly, and in 140mm pots in packs of 10. Tubes suit a large groundcover planting, and the 140mm pots give faster flowers and fuller cover. Plant out soon after delivery, water in well and mulch the soil.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Is it an Australian native?
Yes. Fan flowers are Australian natives, and this selection has been bred for a more upright, bushy habit than the trailing forms.
Will it trail or stand up?
It is bred to be more upright than other fan flowers, so it forms a leafy, bushy mound that shows off the flowers in a border.
Does it flower in winter?
In frost free locations it flowers year round. Where frosts are heavy it flowers mainly in spring.
