The Atlantis Samos is the narrow pot in the range: 39cm across, 86cm tall, and 90 litres of planting volume in a footprint most tall pots cannot match. It is hand made in Vietnam, double fired for frost resistance, and finished in the same textured aged glaze as the rest of the Atlantis pieces. At 38kg empty it is also the easiest of the tall ones to position.

Why you'll love it

  • Height in a tight footprint. 86cm of height on a 39cm base suits a narrow side path, a balcony corner or a gap beside a window.
  • Manageable weight. 38kg empty means two people can carry it in without a trolley, unusual for a pot this tall.
  • Hand glazed, one of a kind. The aged finish shifts in tone and texture across every pot.
  • Double fired for frost resistance. That second firing is what makes the range suitable for an exposed outdoor position.

Sizes and what fits in them

The Samos is made in one size, quoted as outside width by height.

  • 39cm by 86cm, 90 litres. Enough soil for a slim conifer, a clipped standard, a sansevieria or a single upright succulent.
  • For narrow planting. The tall form pairs well with something soft spilling over the rim, since the pot supplies the height.
  • In a row. Three or four at even spacing read as a low screen along a fence without taking bed width.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Hand made ceramic from Vietnam, double fired, with a heavily textured aged glaze in natural tones. Empty weight 38kg.

Outdoors. Frost resistance comes from the double firing, and the glaze is designed to weather rather than stay uniform. The surface will patina outside, which is the intended look.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and raise the pot on feet. Cover each hole with one layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, because both clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix, never garden soil. Indoors it needs a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives

The pot ships empty, packed and crated for freight, and is dispatched in 2 to 5 business days. A 39cm by 86cm pot is tall enough to be top heavy before it is planted, so keep it out of a wind funnel until it is filled. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
