Atlantis Herb Garden Pot

The Atlantis Herb Garden Pot is a wide, low hand-made Vietnamese ceramic bowl, 90cm across and 48cm high, holding 130L. It is double-fired for frost resistance and finished in a richly textured aged glaze that varies from piece to piece. The proportions are the point: 90cm of surface is room for a whole herb garden, or a mixed arrangement, in one vessel.

Why you'll love it

• Surface area, not just volume. A 90cm opening takes six or eight herbs side by side and you can still reach every one.
• An aged glaze that weathers like a relic. The textured finish looks settled from the day it arrives, and no two pots carry quite the same colour.
• Double-fired for frost resistance. The second firing tightens the clay body, so it can live outdoors through a cold winter.
• Low and stable. At 48cm high and 83kg empty it sits solidly, which matters for a pot this wide.

Sizes and what fits in them

One size, measured outside as width by height.

• 90 x 48cm, 130L, 83kg. A full culinary herb planting: rosemary and sage at the back, thyme, parsley, chives and oregano through the middle, something trailing at the rim.
• As a mixed bowl. The same 130L takes a low mass planting of succulents, or a single sculptural plant underplanted with groundcover.
• As a raised bed substitute. On a courtyard or balcony where you cannot dig, it gives a workable growing area at a comfortable height.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Hand-made ceramic from Vietnam, double-fired and glazed by hand, so expect variation in colour and texture between pieces.

Outdoors. Double firing gives the frost resistance, and the aged glaze mellows outside rather than staying uniform. Raise the bowl on feet so water escapes freely underneath.

Drainage. It has drainage holes and they must stay clear, which matters more in a shallow bowl than a deep pot. Cover them with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add a 50mm layer of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil. Under cover, stand it on a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives

The bowl ships empty and unplanted, packed to travel upright, and is dispatched in 2 to 5 business days. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Set the 90 x 48cm bowl in position before filling: it is 83kg bare, and 130L of damp mix on top is a two-person job at best.
