Pink Sapphire Native Morning Glory (Convolvulus angustissimus 'Pink Sapphire') is a trailing native groundcover that opens pale pink flowers from spring to autumn. It stays about 10cm high and spreads up to 1.5m wide. It establishes quickly and, unlike some of its relatives, will not take over the garden.
Why you'll love it
-
Months of pale pink flowers. Small, round pink blooms appear from spring to autumn, opening when the sun shines.
-
Quick to cover. It establishes quickly, and a single plant spreads up to 1.5m, so a bank or border fills fast.
-
Well behaved. It spreads without becoming a nuisance, so it will not swamp its neighbours.
-
A native perennial. The species grows wild across most of Australia, except the tropics and the desert centre.
-
Hardy once settled. Established plants tolerate dry conditions and light overnight frost.
Where it works best
Banks and slopes. Plant 1m apart on a sunny bank, and the trailing stems knit into a flowering mat.
Rockeries and flowering borders. It spills over rocks and edges, softening hard lines in a cottage-style planting.
Baskets and pots. Its trailing habit suits hanging baskets and raised pots, where the stems can spill over the side.
Growing Pink Sapphire Native Morning Glory in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun for the most flowers. It grows across subtropical, warm temperate, cool temperate and Mediterranean gardens, but it is not suited to the true tropics.
Soil. Free-draining soil rich in organic matter. Good drainage matters more than fertility.
Water and feed. Mulch and water well until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. After that it tolerates dry conditions. In pots, feed lightly in spring.
Pruning. Prune as required to maintain tidy growth, trimming stems that wander beyond their space.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Pink Sapphire Native Morning Glory as tube stock and 140mm pots in packs of 10. Tube stock is a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly, and it is an economical way to cover a bank. The potted packs arrive with more growth already made, so they cover ground sooner.
Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out on this page, and the notify button emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
How far apart should I plant it?

No. It establishes quickly but spreads in a controlled way, and you can trim any wandering stems.
Does it suit hanging baskets?
Yes. It trails over the sides of baskets and pots, and it flowers best in full sun.
