Pink Profusion Buddleia (Buddleja davidii 'Pink Profusion') is a butterfly bush with bright pink, scented flower spires, growing to about 2m tall and 2m wide. It flowers from summer through autumn and establishes fast. At that size it suits an ordinary suburban bed as well as a big country garden.
Why you'll love it
-
Bright, clear pink. The long flower clusters are a stronger pink than softer buddleias, each with a tiny orange eye at the centre.
-
Scented and full of life. The fragrance carries on warm days, and butterflies, bees and birds arrive for it through the warmer months.
-
A manageable 2m by 2m. It fills a border without taking it over, and a yearly prune keeps it in bounds.
-
Cold and dry hardy. It is frost hardy, tolerates moderate frost and is drought tolerant once established.
-
Quick to establish. It settles in fast and grows quickly, so a new planting looks furnished within a season or two.
Where it works best
Cottage gardens and mixed borders. Bright pink pairs well with silver foliage and with blue or white flowers. Space plants about 1.5m apart in a border to give each room to arch.
Loose, relaxed hedging. Plant 1.5m apart along a boundary for an informal flowering hedge. It is an open shrub rather than a clipped one, and it drops many leaves in a cold winter.
Wildlife gardens. Set it beside lower flowering perennials so butterflies and bees have somewhere to land and feed through summer.
Growing Pink Profusion Buddleia in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun to part shade, with sun giving the most flowers. It is frost hardy, tolerates moderate frost and handles dry spells, so it suits cool temperate, warm temperate, Mediterranean, semi arid and subtropical gardens.
Soil. Any reasonably free draining soil will do. Avoid heavy ground that stays wet over winter.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly for around 12 weeks until it is established, then it needs far less. Feed with a slow release fertiliser in spring and add seaweed solution during the summer heat for an extra boost.
Pruning. Hard prune after flowering. That keeps it compact and gives heavier flowering the next season. Remove spent spikes in summer if you want the display to run longer.
What to expect when it arrives
Pink Profusion Buddleia comes as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly, and in 140mm pots in packs of 10. Tubes are the economical way to fill a long border. The potted packs are a better choice if you want flowers sooner. Plants travel upright and take a couple of weeks to settle before pushing out new growth.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
How big does Pink Profusion grow?
About 2m tall and 2m wide. That makes it a good fit for an average border where the tallest buddleias would be too big.
Will frost damage it?
It is frost hardy and tolerates moderate frost once established. In a very cold garden, give it a sunny, sheltered spot.
Is it a good choice for a pot?
It can live in a large pot of quality potting mix, but at 2m by 2m it prefers the ground. For containers, the dwarf buddleias are an easier choice.
