Pink Crystals Tea Tree (Leptospermum 'Pink Crystals') is a low, spreading native shrub about 50cm tall and 75cm wide, covered in two-tone pink flowers from late winter to spring. It is a hybrid offspring of the popular Pink Cascade tea tree, with the same charm in a smaller package.
Why you'll love it
-
Two-tone pink flowers. Blossoms in two shades of pink cover the bush from late winter, a flowering start earlier than many natives.
-
A petite spreader. At 50cm by 75cm it suits small beds, rockeries and the front of borders.
-
Tough like its parent. It tolerates light frost and short dry spells, and copes with heavy or seasonally waterlogged soil.
-
Good for pollinators. Tea tree flowers feed bees and other pollinators.
-
Versatile colour. It grows well in the ground or in a pot, so you can place the colour where you want it.
Where it works best
Rockeries and banks. Stems trail down embankments and over rocks. Plant 60cm apart for a continuous low cover in two seasons.
Groundcover and foreground planting. Plant 60cm apart at the front of a native border to close the gaps and keep weeds down.
Potted colour. A single plant in a pot brings late winter and spring colour to courtyards and entries.
Growing Pink Crystals Tea Tree in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun to part shade. It tolerates light frost, so it suits subtropical, warm temperate, cool temperate and Mediterranean gardens, with the best flowering in sun.
Soil. Adaptable, and it tolerates heavy or seasonally waterlogged soil, which many natives dislike.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Fertilise once a year with a slow release native fertiliser.
Pruning. Prune as required to promote new growth, ideally straight after flowering, and stay in leafy growth.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Pink Crystals Tea Tree as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. Expect a small plant that spreads steadily once it has rooted into warm soil. Our tube stock comes from our grower, who does not always have plants ready. When there are none, the tube shows as sold out on this page, and the notify button emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.
