Miranda Succulent (Echeveria agavoides 'Miranda') is a compact rosette of pale green, pointed leaves tipped with red. It grows about 20cm tall and wide, holds a neat symmetrical shape with little fuss, and suits pots, rockeries, waterwise beds and bright rooms. It is also listed for green walls and roof planting.
Why you'll love it
-
Pale and fresh. Soft green leaves with red tips look clean on their own and make the darker succulents around them look richer.
-
A versatile grower. Use it in rockeries, waterwise gardens, pots, indoor displays, green walls and roof plantings.
-
Holds its shape. The rosette stays symmetrical and perky without trimming or training.
-
Tough once settled. Established plants are drought tolerant and need little attention.
Where it works best
Rockeries and waterwise beds. Plant 20cm apart in gravel or stony soil so each rosette stands clear of its neighbours. It pairs well with other drought tolerant plants that share its need for sharp drainage.
Green walls and roof planting. Its compact size and low water needs suit shallow, free draining systems, as long as the position gets plenty of sun and water drains away freely.
Pots and bright rooms. A shallow pot on a sunny windowsill shows the pointed rosette well. Standard pet safety lists do not class echeverias as toxic to cats or dogs, though a chewed plant is a sorry sight and may upset a stomach.
Growing Miranda Succulent in Australia
Position and climate. Sun brings out the best leaf colour. A newly planted rosette should be hardened off over a week or two before it meets full summer sun. Frost free warm temperate, Mediterranean and arid or semi-arid gardens suit it outdoors, as do subtropical ones with some cover from the rain. Frost is the main risk. Where winter nights drop to freezing, keep it in a pot that can come inside.
Soil. Free draining soil is a must. In a pot use a gritty cactus mix, and in the ground raise the bed and mulch with gravel, since bark holds moisture against the leaves.
Water and feed. Let the mix dry out between waterings, then soak it and let it drain, always at soil level and never into the centre of the rosette. Through winter a pot may need water only about once a month. Feed once, lightly, in early spring, since rich feeding stretches the rosette.
Pruning. Nothing to prune beyond removing dead lower leaves. Wear gloves when you do, since the leaf points are firm.
What to expect when it arrives
Miranda Succulent comes as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly once potted into gritty mix. Tube plants are small young rosettes and take a season or two to fill out to their full 20cm.
Plants are packed to travel upright and arrive in good order. Take them out of the box straight away, stand them in bright shade for a few days, then shift them gradually into stronger light. Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out on this page, and the notify button emails you the day it is back in stock.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Can I use Miranda on a green wall or roof?
It is listed for green walls and roof planting, where its compact size and low water needs help. The growing medium must drain freely and the position must get good light.
How often should I water it?
Only when the soil has dried out, roughly every two weeks in a summer pot and far less in winter. Established plants cope well with dry spells.
Does it need full sun?
Sun gives the best leaf colour, but it also lives happily in bright light indoors. Too little light makes the rosette stretch and the red tips fade.
