Key Lime Kiss Succulent (Sempervivum 'Key Lime Kiss') is a tiny, neat rosette succulent, lime green flushing to red, that starts only 7cm high and wide and soon builds into a cluster of small rounded plants. It is a robust, hardy houseleek for dry soils, waterwise gardens and exposed spots such as roof terraces, and it looks good in a pot. It is rock solid cold hardy and drought tolerant once established.
Why you'll love it
-
Lime green flushing to red. The tiny rosettes shift from fresh lime to warm red as the light and temperature change.
-
Builds its own cluster. One small plant grows into a cluster of rounded rosettes, and crowded clusters send pups out to start new plants nearby.
-
Made for exposed places. Roof terraces, dry soils and rockeries suit it, because it is a robust, hardy garden plant.
-
Cold hardy and drought tolerant. It is rock solid cold hardy and drought tolerant once established.
-
Showy in a pot. A single pot of clustered rosettes looks planned from the start.
Where it works best
Landscaping and rockeries. Plant 10cm apart, because each rosette is only 7cm across. The clusters join as pups fill the gaps.
Roof terraces and exposed sites. Wind, sun and thin soil suit it. Choose a sunny edge and a gritty mix.
Pots and bright windowsills. A shallow pot or bowl works well indoors, but it needs full sun to hold its colour.
Growing Key Lime Kiss Succulent in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun for maximum leaf colour and root health. It suits warm temperate, cool temperate, Mediterranean and dry inland gardens. Where summers are humid and wet, grow it in a pot or a raised, gritty bed so the rosettes stay dry.
Soil. Free-draining, gritty soil. Add coarse sand or fine gravel to heavy ground.
Water and feed. Do not overwater. In summer heatwaves, water around the rosettes rather than into them. Established plants need little.
Pruning. Gently pull off dead old leaves. If pups form, remove them carefully and pot them on, or leave them in place to build a colony of ground-covering rosettes.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Key Lime Kiss Succulent as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives as a very small rosette, so give it a season or two to cluster up. Plant it into gritty soil or a pot soon after delivery and water it in lightly.
Tube stock comes from our grower and is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
How big will it get?
A single rosette stays small, about 7cm high and wide, but the plant builds a cluster as pups form.
What are pups?
Pups are the baby rosettes that form around the main plant. Leave them to build a colony, or lift them carefully and pot them on.
How much water does it need?
Very little. Do not overwater, and in summer heatwaves water around the rosettes rather than into them.
