Javelin Forte White Spanish Lavender (Lavandula stoechas 'Javelin Forte White') is an upright, bushy lavender, 30 to 40cm tall and wide, topped in spring with long pure white tufts over pale lilac flowers. Bred to be strong and disease resistant, it blooms right through the warmer months, which makes it worth a try if lavender has let you down before.
Why you'll love it
-
Clean white tufts. Long white tufts sit over a pale green flower body that fades to palest lilac, glowing in dusk light.
-
Healthy and disease resistant. Javelin lavenders are bred for strong constitutions, which helps through damp and humid weather.
-
Long flowering. Blooms continue through the warmer months, with plenty of nectar for bees and butterflies.
-
Drought and heat tolerant. Once settled it handles hot, dry weather and needs little watering.
-
Tidy and upright. The bushy, upright shape stays neat without much clipping.
Where it works best
White and pastel gardens. Pair it with silver foliage, pale roses and soft blue flowers. The white tufts stand out in evening light.
Low hedges. Plant 30cm apart in a single row. At that spacing the plants join within a season or two into a neat line about 40cm high, trimmed lightly after flowering.
Pots by the entry. Compact enough for a 25cm pot, so it can flank steps and doorways, and it moves easily if the sun shifts.
Growing Javelin Forte White Spanish Lavender in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun. It is heat and drought tolerant and copes with humidity well enough for subtropical, warm temperate, Mediterranean and dry inland gardens. It is not as cold tolerant as English or French lavender, but should survive light overnight frost once established.
Soil. Free-draining soil and avoiding wet feet matter most. Plant on a low mound in clay, and mulch with gravel instead of bark.
Water and feed. Mulch and water regularly for the first 12 weeks while the roots establish. After that water only in long dry spells, with one slow release feed after flowering.
Pruning. Prune twice a year, removing no more than a third of the foliage and never cutting into old wood.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Javelin Forte White Spanish Lavender as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives small, needs a few weeks to settle, and gains size steadily once the weather warms. Our tube stock comes from our grower, who does not always have plants ready. When there are none, the tube shows as sold out on this page, and the notify button emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
I have killed lavender before. Is this one safer?
Javelin types are bred to resist disease, which gives them a head start. No lavender is foolproof, though. Full sun, open airflow and fast drainage decide whether it survives.
How long does it flower?
From spring through the warmer months. Remove spent flower heads with a light trim to keep new buds coming.
Is it safe for pets?
Lavender can upset cats and dogs if they eat a lot, so we do not list it as pet friendly. The scent puts most animals off, but keep it away from a plant chewer.
