Cranberry Cocktail Succulent (Sempervivum 'Cranberry Cocktail') is a small, neat houseleek with deep maroon rosettes tipped in lime green, about 10cm high and 10cm to 20cm wide. It is super cold hardy and drought tolerant once established, and it suits green roof and green wall projects as well as pots. Full sun brings out the colour.
Why you'll love it
-
Maroon with a lime tip. Deep maroon rosettes with lime green tips make a vivid contrast on a plant barely 10cm high.
-
Year-round colour. The tones shift through the seasons, so it stays interesting in every month.
-
Super cold hardy. It is totally frost hardy and drought tolerant once established.
-
Roof and wall ready. Houseleeks grow on the roofs of houses on almost nothing, and this one suits green roof and green wall projects.
-
Pups for free. Offsets form around the rosette and can be potted on to make more plants.
Where it works best
Green roofs and green walls. Plant 15cm apart in a shallow, gritty mix. It roots into thin layers and copes with sun and wind.
Rockeries and waterwise gardens. Wedge rosettes between stones in full sun, where the maroon stands out against grey rock.
Indoor pots and terrariums. In a bright spot it makes a neat, dark-toned bowl. A terrarium needs good light and free drainage.
Growing Cranberry Cocktail Succulent in Australia
Position and climate. Full sun for maximum leaf colour. It suits warm temperate, cool temperate, Mediterranean and dry inland climates. In humid areas with wet summers, plant it where rain drains away fast, or keep it in a pot under cover.
Soil. Well drained soil. In pots and green roof trays, use a gritty, shallow mix.
Water and feed. Do not overwater. Established plants need very little water, and they cope with long dry spells.
Pruning. Carefully remove dead old leaves from the base of the rosette. If pups form, remove them carefully and pot them on.
What to expect when it arrives
We sell Cranberry Cocktail Succulent as tube stock, a young plant in an 80mm deep tube that establishes quickly. It arrives as a small rosette with its colour already showing. Plant it into a gritty mix soon after delivery and keep it in full sun.
Tube stock is grown for us and is not always available. When the grower has none, the tube shows as sold out, and the notify button on the page emails you the day it is back.
Plants are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. Every plant is covered by our 30 day healthy plant guarantee.

Common questions
Is it suitable for a green wall?
Yes. Houseleeks suit green roof and green wall projects because they grow on very little soil and cope with sun and dry spells. Use a free-draining, shallow mix.
Why is the colour fading?
Low light weakens the colour. Move the plant into full sun, where the maroon deepens and the lime tips stay bright.
Can it take frost?
Yes, it is totally frost hardy. The challenge is warm, wet weather rather than cold.
