The Backyard Farmer anti bird net is a single 4m by 10m sheet of white UV resistant HDPE, woven in a 5mm by 5mm diamond mesh. It goes over fruit trees, berry canes and vegetable beds to keep birds off a ripening crop without trapping them. One sheet covers a home orchard or a full vegetable patch, not a single shrub.
Net over a frame, not over the canopy. Build a simple hoop or post frame that holds the netting clear of the foliage, stretch the sheet taut across it, then secure the edges with ties, clips or weights so nothing gets underneath. A tight net is more effective and far safer for wildlife: loose folds are what birds tangle in.
Check through the season for sag, tears or a corner that has pulled loose, and re-tension as needed. After harvest, take it down, shake it out and store it folded and dry.
