The Fiskars Planter Hoe is a one piece Nyglass hand hoe for planting and weeding: opening planting holes, breaking up soil ahead of a row and pulling weeds out of a bed. It is 359mm long and 199mm across, light for its size and corrosion resistant, so it does not rust the way a steel bladed hoe does when it is left out after a job.

What it does

  • One piece Nyglass. Head and handle are moulded as a single part, so there is no ferrule or rivet to work loose the way a two part hoe does.
  • Will not rust, corrode or age. The material is unaffected by water and wet soil, which matters for a tool that lives in the ground.
  • Light for its reach. At 359mm long it works as a short handled hoe you can use kneeling, without the weight of a steel head on the end.
  • Hang hole and a 25 year warranty. It hangs on a hook in the shed rather than leaning in a corner.

How to use it

For weeding, work with the head just under the surface and draw it towards you, cutting weeds off below the crown rather than dragging them out and turning fresh seed up to the light. For planting, chop a hole to the depth of the pot the plant came from, set the plant in it, then pull the loose soil back around the rootball and firm it down.

Kneel or crouch to use it: it is a short tool, and working standing up puts the job in your back. Rinse the head after use, wipe it dry and hang it up.

What it suits

Use in garden beds. Cultivating soil, opening planting holes and keeping weeds down between established plants.

Use in vegetable gardens and pots. Marking out spacing, planting a row of seedlings and light cultivation in containers. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.

Not for breaking new ground. Compacted clay, rocky fill and turf removal are jobs for a mattock or a fork. Levering this against a buried root is how any hand tool ends its life.
