Bronze Rambler Grevillea Standard

Bronze Rambler Grevillea Standard (Grevillea 'Bronze Rambler') is a groundcover grevillea grafted onto a clear trunk, so the foliage cascades from a head held at about 1.2m and spreads to roughly 2m wide. Deeply cut leaves flush bronze before hardening to green, and red toothbrush flowers appear through much of the year. It is a native weeping feature for a courtyard with no room for a tree.

Growing Bronze Rambler Grevillea in Australia

Position and climate. Full sun for the heaviest flowering, in subtropical, warm temperate, cool temperate and Mediterranean gardens. Frost hardy, so it handles southern winters in the ground, and salt tolerant enough for coastal gardens.

Soil. Free draining is essential. On clay, plant high on a mound with coarse sand and gravel worked in. Mulch with coarse bark or gravel, clear of the trunk.

Water and feed. Deep water weekly through the first summer, then only in long dry spells. Feed lightly in early spring with a low phosphorus native fertiliser: standard fertilisers and manures carry enough phosphorus to damage the roots.

Pruning. Trim the head lightly after each flush. The important job is the trunk: rub off any shoots below the graft as they appear, or the understock takes over and the weeping head is lost.
