Multiguard Snail and Slug Killer is a scattered pellet bait for controlling snails and slugs, supplied here in a 2.5kg pack. It works by stopping the pests feeding, so they stop damaging plants and retreat to shelter. It is Australian owned and made, and formulated for the damp conditions that bring snails out in the first place.

What it does

  • Stops the feeding first. Snails and slugs that take the bait lose their appetite and crawl back to shelter, so leaf damage ends before the pest does.
  • Formulated with the wider garden in mind. Multicrop formulates it to be safe for native birds, fauna and earthworms.
  • Holds up when it is wet. The pellets are designed to last longer in damp and humid conditions, which is when snail and slug pressure is highest.
  • Breaks down usefully. Spent pellets break down into nutrients for the soil and the plants growing in it.

How to use it

Scatter the pellets evenly across the affected area at approximately 70 pellets per square metre, spreading them around plants rather than heaping them in piles. Apply after rain or watering, since that is when snails and slugs are moving and feeding. Check the treated area over the following days and reapply as required where pressure stays high, particularly through a wet spell. Read the label before you open the pack and follow its directions, including the crops and situations the product is registered for and any restrictions that apply.
