StoneLite Romano Low Square

The StoneLite romano low square is a shallow square planter cast from glass-reinforced concrete, with the surface of cast stone at about a third of the weight. It is made in two sizes, 33 x 33 x 14cm holding 10 litres and 42 x 42 x 18cm holding 18 litres, in 11 finishes. Square sides are the point: they sit flush to a wall and line up with no wasted gaps.

Why you'll love it

• More soil in the same footprint. A square holds its corners, so at 33cm across it takes 10 litres where the round bowl of the same width takes 6. That extra mix is the difference between watering daily and twice a week.
• Made to line up. A row of three along a fence reads as one deliberate line, not a scatter of pots.

Sizes and what fits in them

Two sizes, measured on the outside.

• 33 x 33 x 14cm, 10 litres, 4kg. Herbs by a back door, or seasonal colour on a step.
• 42 x 42 x 18cm, 18 litres, 7kg. A small clipped ball, an ornamental grass, or trailing planting over the rim.
• What it will not do. Eighteen litres is shallow planting volume: no shrubs or trees long term, and it dries faster than a deep pot.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete, cast and hand finished. It shrugs off knocks that crack ordinary pots, and tone varies slightly between pieces.

Outdoors. The sprayed colours carry the 15 year Weathershield guarantee; raw concrete is uncoated. We do not publish a frost rating, so in cold districts raise it on feet and keep water from pooling in it.

Drainage. Cast with drainage holes. Keep them clear, sit the planter on feet, and screen the holes with fibreglass flyscreen, not fabric or geofabric, which clogs. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then premium potting mix, never garden soil. Indoors it needs a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives

Planters ship empty and packed to travel, delivered Australia wide. Raw concrete is dispatched in 2 to 5 business days; a 42 x 42 x 18cm square in a sprayed colour is made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks.
