The Terrazzo Tall Egg is an upright, softly rounded planter: a fibreglass core wrapped in a real terrazzo shell, which brings it to roughly a quarter of the weight of traditional terrazzo. It comes in four sizes, from 25cm across and 27cm high up to 60cm across and 67cm high. The height is the point, lifting a plant towards eye level without the bulk of solid stone.

  • 44 x 52cm, 65 litres. An indoor palm, a fiddle leaf fig or a dwarf citrus on a balcony.
  • 60 x 67cm, 160 litres. A small feature tree or a mature shrub anchoring an entry.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. A fibreglass core does the structural work, the terrazzo shell the surface. It is sold in the standard terrazzo finish, with empty weights of 2kg, 4kg, 8kg and 12kg.

Outdoors. The range is a favourite for indoor plants and balconies, which is where it does its best work. We publish no frost rating for the tall egg, so in hard frosting districts keep it under cover or against a warm wall.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and stand the pot on feet. Cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clogs. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix rather than garden soil. Indoors, sit it on a saucer.
