Square Rubber Pot Risers lift a pot clear of the surface it stands on, so water drains away instead of pooling under the base. Each riser is 25mm square and 10mm high, in black rubber, and they come sixteen to a pack. They work on tiles and timber indoors, and on paving outside.

What it does

  • Restores the drainage you paid for. A pot sitting flat seals its own holes against the ground, and a 10mm gap is enough for water to run clear.
  • Protects the surface underneath. Rubber stops a heavy pot scratching tiles or timber, and the gap prevents the dark ring of staining that marks concrete.
  • Grips under weight. The rubber holds large planters without slipping, so a tall pot stays where you set it down.
  • Sixteen in a pack. One purchase covers four pots at four risers each, usually a whole balcony grouping.

How to use it

Allow three to four risers per pot, spaced evenly so the weight is shared and the pot cannot rock. Three is enough under a round pot; four suits a square or a heavy planter. On a large pot, tip it gently and slide each riser in rather than lifting the whole thing.

Set them on a clean, level surface, because grit trapped underneath will still scratch a polished floor. Wipe them clean or rinse with water whenever you move the pot, and check that nothing has washed in and blocked the drainage holes.

What it suits

Balconies and patios. Paving marks permanently once water sits on it, and a small air gap prevents the stain that will not scrub out.

Indoor hard floors. Tiles and timber take the damage first when a pot is dragged even a few centimetres, and rubber absorbs the friction.

Courtyards and verandahs. Outdoor pots drain far better raised, and an even footing keeps a tall planter steadier in wind.
