The Northcote Cascade is a self contained tiered water feature that stands 900mm tall on a footprint of only 380mm by 390mm. Water runs from the top tier through two pour points down to the base, so it delivers moving water and the sound that comes with it without anyone digging a pond. It sets up without an electrician, which makes it realistic for an already finished garden.

What it does

  • Sound as much as sight. Two pour points break the flow into separate falls, so it reads as running water from across a courtyard rather than as a still ornament.
  • Small footprint, real height. At 900mm high on a 380mm by 390mm base it holds presence in a narrow space where a wide bowl would never fit.
  • No electrician required. Installation is a matter of positioning the piece and setting it up, not booking a trade.
  • Slate look finish. The dark, textured surface sits comfortably against contemporary paving and rendered walls, and does not date the way heavy ornamentation does.

How to use it

Set the feature on a stable, level surface before you fill it. Level matters more than it sounds, because a piece sitting off plumb pours unevenly across the two spouts and drains to one side. Fill with water and run it as directed, topping up as evaporation takes its toll through summer. Clean the bowl and flow path periodically to keep the water clear, since algae and leaf litter are what slow a small feature down.
