The Fiskars Plant Care Shears are large loop handled bypass shears for indoor plants and flowers, supplied with a free standing holder. The 60mm blades are forged stainless steel with 80% recycled content, and at 188mm long and 205g they are built for a full grip and a decisive cut rather than fine detail work.

What it does

  • 60mm bypass blades. Long enough to take a broad leaf or a flower stem in one pass, and bypass cutting leaves a clean face rather than a crushed stem.
  • Forged stainless steel, 80% recycled. Forging gives a harder, longer lasting edge than stamped steel, and stainless resists the corrosion that sap and water cause.
  • Large ambidextrous loops. The 105mm handles suit left and right handed users equally and give enough leverage for tougher fibres.
  • Integrated handle scraper. Strips leaves and thorns off a stem without you running a bare hand down it.

How to use it

For plant maintenance, take a tired leaf back at the base of its stalk rather than trimming the leaf in half, which only leaves a brown edge that never recovers. For flowers, cut on an angle and get the stem into water promptly. Work with the blades fully open around the stem instead of nibbling at it with the tips, which is where scissor style tools lose their alignment.

Wipe the blades clean and dry after use. Sap left on stainless steel dries hard and drags on the next cut. Then stand the shears in the holder so the edges are protected and the tool stays where you use it.

What it suits

Use on indoor plants and herbs. Houseplants, herbs and decorative foliage, including the thicker indoor plant material that light snips struggle with.
