The Fiskars Plant Care Pruner is the heavy end of the indoor plant care range: a bypass pruner that cuts branches, stems and roots up to 18mm in diameter, supplied with a free standing aluminium holder. Cast aluminium handles and a hardened carbon steel blade make it the tool for the cuts that leave smaller snips flexing.

What it does

  • Cuts up to 18mm. Branches, stems and roots, which covers root pruning at repotting time and cutting back a leggy indoor specimen.
  • Bypass action. The 45mm blade passes the hook rather than crushing against it, leaving a clean face on the stem that seals faster.
  • Hardened carbon steel blade. It holds an edge longer than soft steel, and the low friction coating helps it through sappy cuts while resisting rust.
  • Cast aluminium handles, 105mm. Rigid under load and light for that strength, with a snap lock that holds the blade closed in storage.

How to use it

Put the blade side against the part of the plant you are keeping and the hook behind the piece you are removing, so the clean face of the cut is left on the plant. Cut just above a node. On a stem close to the 18mm limit, seat the pruner squarely and cut through in one action rather than twisting to finish it off, since twisting bends a blade.

Wipe the blade clean after use and dry it, especially after milky or sappy stems, then close the snap lock before the pruner goes back in its holder. The holder stands on the bench and keeps the edge protected.

Use on indoor plants. Pruning houseplants and decorative foliage, shaping growth and taking out damaged or crossing stems cleanly.
