Bamboo slat screening is the quickest way to close the gaps in a fence, balustrade or frame you already have. Each panel is 3000mm long, built from 2mm bamboo slats, and comes in three heights: 1000mm, 1500mm and 1800mm. It suits anyone wanting privacy and a warmer natural surface without rebuilding the boundary.

What it does

  • Screens the view on the day it goes up. Fixed over open palings, wire or a balustrade, the slats block sightlines immediately.
  • Natural bamboo, not a print. The slats bring real timber texture to a hard fence.
  • Light enough to handle alone. A panel can be carried, positioned and held by one person.
  • Three heights, one length. Every panel is 3 metres long, so you pick the height: 1000mm to top up a low fence, 1500mm for a courtyard, 1800mm for a boundary.

How to use it

Measure the run and divide by 3 metres to get the number of panels. A 12 metre back fence takes four, and it is worth ordering one spare if the run has corners, because trimming to length always costs you a little.

Fix the slats securely to the existing fence or frame, working along the top rail first so the panel hangs straight, then fixing the bottom and any middle rails. Butt the panels together for full screening, or leave a gap if you want filtered light. Check the fixings once or twice a year and tighten anything loose.

Fences, balconies and courtyards. Fences that have gone thin, balconies that need shelter as much as privacy, and courtyards where a hedge would take floor space you cannot spare.

Hiding bins and pumps. Screening around bins, air conditioning units and pool pumps, where the job is hiding something rather than defining a boundary. It is delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
