The White Balinese Head Planter is a sculptural composite planter cast as a Balinese face, finished in white and light enough to lift into place on your own. It comes in three sizes, named 240mm, 340mm and 500mm for their height, each with a drainage hole in the base. Buy it for what it does as an object: garden sculpture that happens to hold a plant.
Why you'll love it
-
It carries a corner by itself. The moulded face reads as an ornament first, so it earns its place whether or not the planting is at its best.
-
Light enough to reposition. Lightweight composite rather than stone, so you can move it while you work out where it belongs.
-
Proper drainage. A built-in drainage hole lets excess water leave instead of pooling around the roots.
-
Three sizes that group well. They are proportioned to sit together, so a pair or a trio builds a layered display.
Sizes and what fits in them
The size name is the height of the piece, not the width, which matters when you are picturing it on a step or a plinth.
-
240mm. 24cm high, 18cm wide and 19cm deep, about 6 to 8 litres of mix. Suits succulents and compact foliage.
-
340mm. 34cm high, 25cm wide and 27cm deep, about 14 to 18 litres. Room for a feature plant, or trailing greenery over the edge.
-
500mm. 50cm high, 37cm wide and 38cm deep, about 30 to 35 litres. The one for statement foliage and ornamental planting at an entry.
Material, weathering and drainage
Material. Lightweight composite with a white finish. Clean it with a damp cloth or a gentle rinse, nothing abrasive, because the detail in the face is where dirt shows first.
Outdoors. Made for gardens, patios, courtyards and walkways, and equally at home indoors. We do not claim a frost rating, so in hard frosting districts site it under eaves or bring it in over winter.
Drainage. One drainage hole in the base, and it needs to stay clear. Check it after heavy rain, particularly on the smaller sizes where the soil volume is modest. Indoors, stand it on a saucer, because none is included.
What to expect when it arrives
The planter ships empty and unplanted, packed to protect the moulded face in transit. Set it on a stable, level surface before filling, especially the 500mm, which goes top heavy once planted. Planters are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
