The Fiskars SP15 Solid pruning shears are precision snips for detail work: deadheading, harvesting herbs, shaping indoor plants and any cut where a full sized secateur is too blunt an instrument. The microtip blades are stainless steel, fully hardened and precision ground, and at 245mm long the tool sits in a pocket or an apron rather than a shed. They won the Red Dot Design Award in 2019.
Use these for stems the blades close on easily. Cut on a slight angle just above an outward facing bud, so new growth heads away from the centre of the plant, and let the tip do the work in tight spots rather than forcing the whole jaw in. Do not twist the blades to free a stem that is too thick, since that is what puts a microtip permanently out of alignment.
Wipe the blades clean and dry after every use. Sap sets hard and dulls the cut, and a clean blade stops disease travelling between plants. Store them dry.
Use on flowers and ornamentals. Deadheading, cutting for a vase and shaping soft growth, where a clean cut shows on the plant.
