The Fiskars IsoCore Maul is a 3.6kg two handed splitting tool for firewood and heavy striking work on an acreage or a treed property. One side of the head splits and the other is a sledge face, and the IsoCore shock control system takes the sting out of strikes that otherwise travel up your arms.
Split on a low chopping block rather than on the ground, so a miss goes into the block instead of the dirt. Stand the round up, pick a line through an existing check in the end grain, and let the weight of the head do the work: a controlled swing splits better than a hard one. On a knotty round, start a splitting wedge and drive it through with the sledge face rather than fighting the log with the blade.
Wipe the head clean after use and dry it, then oil it lightly from time to time. No sheath is supplied, so store it upright or hanging in a dry shed. It carries a lifetime Fiskars warranty.
Use for firewood. Tough, knotty logs and hardwood rounds, the wood a light axe bounces off.
