StoneLite Squat Egg

The StoneLite Squat Egg is a wide, low shouldered planter cast from glass-reinforced concrete, made in five sizes from 34cm to 65cm across and eleven finishes. It reads as solid concrete but weighs about a third as much, so one person can lift and reposition it.

Why you'll love it

• Concrete looks without concrete weight. The largest 65 x 52cm size is 18kg empty, so a balcony or a suspended timber deck stays on the table.
• It takes a knock. Glass reinforcement runs through the wall, giving strength an ordinary cast pot does not have.
• Eleven finishes, ten of them sprayed. Raw Concrete is the standard, with colours from White on White and Shale Grey through to Monument and Charcoal.
• Custom colour on request. Almost any Dulux colour is available to order for an extra $60.

Sizes and what fits in them

Five sizes, quoted as outside width by height.

• 34 x 30cm, 25L, 5kg. A clipped ball, or herbs by the kitchen door.
• 42 x 36cm, 45L, 7kg. A dwarf shrub or strappy leaf plant with room to grow.
• 50 x 44cm, 78L, 10kg. A dwarf citrus, a gardenia or a clipped buxus.
• 57 x 48cm, 110L, 13kg. A feature shrub, or a matched pair at an entry.
• 65 x 52cm, 155L, 18kg. Root volume for a small tree or a substantial specimen.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete: a genuine concrete skin carried on a glass fibre matrix, which is where the weight saving comes from.

Outdoors. The sprayed colours are Dulux Weathershield and carry a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking. We hold no frost rating for this range, so where winters freeze hard, keep it draining freely rather than assume it will cope with ice inside.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and raise the pot on feet so water can escape. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, because both clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix, never garden soil. Indoors, stand it on a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty and unplanted. Raw Concrete is dispatched in 2 to 5 business days; sprayed colours are made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks. Every size, the 65 x 52cm included, is delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.
