StoneLite Lotus Planter

The StoneLite Lotus Planter is an open, flared pot cast from glass-reinforced concrete, made in seven sizes from 28cm across up to 112cm. In every size it is wider than it is tall, so planting sits high and spills over the rim rather than disappearing down a shaft. It carries the surface of solid concrete at about a third of the weight, so a 650 litre planter is 60kg empty.

Sizes and what fits in them

Measurements are outside dimensions, diameter by height.

• 28cm to 46cm wide, 10 L to 45 L, 3kg to 7kg. Succulents, a small fern, herbs, or seasonal colour for a step or a table.
• 58cm to 72cm wide, 100 L to 190 L, 12kg to 20kg. A compact shrub, a clipped ball, or strappy plants with groundcover trailing through the front.
• 89cm and 112cm wide, 380 L and 650 L, 35kg and 60kg. Room for a cycad, a mature agave or a mass of ornamental grass, with the soil volume to hold moisture.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete, cast thin over a fibre matrix, which keeps the wall light without making it brittle.

Outdoors. Every finish in this range is a Dulux Weathershield custom spray, carrying a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking. Read that as a guarantee about the coating staying put, not the shade. Almost any custom colour can be sprayed to order for an extra $60.

Drainage. The planter has drainage holes. Keep them clear, raise the pot on feet, cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen rather than fabric or geofabric, which clogs, then add 50mm of 10mm gravel and fill with a premium potting mix, never garden soil. Indoors, stand it on a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty. Every size is a custom spray made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks. Planters are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. A 28 x 20cm lotus is a one hand carry at 3kg; the 112 x 72cm needs two people and a clear run.
