StoneLite French U Planter

The StoneLite French U Planter is a classic tapered pot cast from glass-reinforced concrete, made in four sizes that each run as wide as they are tall, from 25cm up to 50cm. It has the surface of solid concrete at about a third of the weight, so a 100 litre planter is 13kg empty. It works indoors as readily as on a terrace.

Sizes and what fits in them

Measurements are outside dimensions, diameter by height.

• 25 x 25cm, 12 L, 3kg. A single indoor plant, a small succulent, or a herb by the sink.
• 30 x 30cm, 20 L, 4kg. A fern, a peace lily or a young specimen with a season of growth ahead of it.
• 40 x 40cm, 50 L, 8kg. A compact shrub, a dwarf citrus or a clipped ball for a front step.
• 50 x 50cm, 100 L, 13kg. Enough soil for a small feature plant to stay put for years, indoors or out.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete, cast thin over a fibre matrix, which keeps the wall light without making it fragile.

Outdoors. Custom-spray colours are finished in Dulux Weathershield, with a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking. That covers the coating staying put, not the shade, and raw concrete patinas as concrete does. Almost any custom colour can be sprayed to order for an extra $60.

Drainage. The planter has drainage holes. Keep them clear, raise the pot on feet outdoors, cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen rather than fabric or geofabric, which clogs, then add 50mm of 10mm gravel and fill with a premium potting mix, never garden soil. Indoors it needs a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives

Pots ship empty. Raw concrete is dispatched in 2 to 5 business days, and custom spray colours are made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks. Planters are delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95. The 25 x 25cm is light enough to carry in one hand, an easy size to order as a pair.
