Atlantis Egg Planter

The Atlantis Egg Planter is a hand-made Vietnamese ceramic pot with a rounded, tapered egg profile, sold in four sizes from 26 x 19cm to 54 x 43cm. It is double-fired for frost resistance and carries a richly textured aged glaze, so no two are exactly alike. Choose it for weight and character rather than a light moulded lookalike.

Sizes and what fits in them

All measurements are outside dimensions, width by height.

• 26 x 19cm, 15L, 4kg. Herbs, compact succulents, or one indoor foliage plant from a 140mm nursery pot.
• 34 x 24cm, 25L, 12kg. A 200mm shrub, a clump of strappy-leaf grass, or a dwarf citrus.
• 42 x 33cm, 50L, 20kg. Room for 300mm stock: a compact lilly pilly, an established gardenia, or a clipped ball.
• 54 x 43cm, 110L, 40kg. Advanced shrubs, a small feature tree, or a mixed planting with trailing edges.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Hand-made Vietnamese ceramic, double-fired and glazed. Each is finished by hand, so expect small differences in colour and texture between pieces. That variation is the point, not a fault.

Outdoors. Double firing gives the frost resistance, and the aged glaze mellows outdoors rather than staying factory-uniform. Raise it on feet so it never stands in a puddle.

Drainage. It has drainage holes and they must stay clear. Cover them with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add a 50mm layer of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil. Indoors, stand it on a saucer.

What to expect when it arrives
