The Terrazzo Ball Planter is a rounded planter built on a fibreglass core wrapped in a real terrazzo shell, at roughly a quarter of the weight of traditional terrazzo. Four sizes run from 32 x 25cm holding 20 litres up to 110 x 72cm holding 400 litres. That weight is why it works indoors and on balconies, where solid terrazzo is out of the question.

  • 32 x 25cm, 20 litres, 2kg. An indoor feature plant, a compact fern or a small succulent group.
  • 54 x 43cm, 60 litres, 9kg. The everyday size for a shrub or a strappy leaf clump.
  • 82 x 57cm, 180 litres, 15kg. Room for a large shrub or a clipped ball, still a two person lift.
  • 110 x 72cm, 400 litres, 28kg. A statement pot for an entry, with root run for a small tree.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. A fibreglass core with a terrazzo shell over it. The core gives it flex that solid terrazzo lacks, so it survives handling better, though a sharp impact can mark the shell.

Outdoors. The surface weathers gently outdoors and the speckle keeps its character with age. We hold no frost rating for it, so in hard frost districts choose a sheltered position.

Drainage. Drainage holes are provided. Keep them clear, raise the pot on feet, and cover each hole with fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a premium potting mix. Indoors it needs a saucer.
