The Old Stone Sala Planter is a high fired earthenware pot with an unglazed, sandblasted surface, sold in four sizes from 34cm across by 26cm high up to 75cm by 55cm. It is the most versatile shape in the range, rated for indoor and outdoor use, and the smallest size is only 7kg. Choose it for a low, wide bowl form with a surface that reads as stone.

Four sizes, measured as outside diameter by height.

  • 34 x 26cm, 7kg. Light enough to lift one handed. Suits succulents, compact foliage or a small clipped shape.
  • 45 x 33cm, 16kg. The everyday size for a doorway or a table, with room for one plant and a little underplanting.
  • 55 x 42cm, 40kg. Soil volume for a shrub or strappy leaved feature meant to last more than a season.
  • 75 x 55cm, 64kg. The statement size. It carries an advanced shrub or a small tree and stays where you put it.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. High fired earthenware, unglazed, finished by sandblasting. Colour and texture vary from piece to piece.

Outdoors. Rated for outdoor positions and intended to weather. We make no frost or UV claim for it, so in hard frosting districts keep it raised, drained and out of standing water. Indoors, stand it on a saucer so run off never reaches the floor.

Drainage. Keep the drainage holes clear and raise the pot on feet so water escapes freely. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, which clog. Add a 50mm layer of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil. Choose plants suited to pots: aggressive root systems can damage any planter.
