The Armour Self Watering Egg is a smooth egg shaped planter in a textured black finish, built around an integrated water reservoir. It sells in two sizes, 370mm and 480mm across, and the reservoir is the reason to choose it: the pot holds a steady level of moisture at the root zone instead of swinging between soaked and bone dry.

  • 370mm. 37cm across and 35cm tall, holding roughly 30 to 35 litres of mix. Right for decorative foliage and compact shrubs, or anything now in a 250mm grower pot.
  • 480mm. 48cm across and 45cm tall, roughly 60 to 70 litres. The feature size, with more water in reserve, so top ups come further apart.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. A lightweight planter in a textured black finish that gives the surface depth rather than a flat sheen. It wipes clean with a damp cloth.

Outdoors. Both sizes are listed for outdoor as well as indoor use and handle normal weather on a patio or balcony. We hold no frost or UV rating for this finish, so in cold inland districts keep it under an eave.

Drainage. There are no open drainage holes to plug or unplug. Drainage is managed inside the self watering system, with water held below the soil for the plant to draw on, so no saucer is needed indoors. Top the reservoir up rather than flooding the mix from above.
