StoneLite Square Tree Planter

The StoneLite square tree planter is built to do one job properly: hold an advanced tree on a surface you cannot dig into. Cast from glass-reinforced concrete, it has the mass and surface of solid stone at about a third of the weight, and it comes in two sizes, 90 x 90 x 60cm holding 486 litres and 90 x 90 x 100cm holding 810 litres, in 10 finishes.

Why you'll love it

• Root volume a tree can live in. At 486 and 810 litres, these hold several times what most tree pots do: the difference between a tree that survives in a pot and one that keeps growing.
• Movable before it is planted. Forty-eight kilograms for the lower planter, 92kg for the metre high one. Solid concrete at 810 litres would want a crane.
• Square sides suit hard landscape. A 90cm square sits flush to a wall and lines up along a driveway edge, so it reads as built in.
• Ten finishes, guaranteed coating. Dulux Weathershield custom sprays carry a 15 year guarantee against blistering, peeling and flaking. Other Dulux or Colorbond colours cost $60 more.

Sizes and what fits in them

Two sizes, both 90cm square, measured on the outside.

• 90 x 90 x 60cm, 486 litres, 48kg. Multi trunk small trees, or advanced screening plants in a row.
• 90 x 90 x 100cm, 810 litres, 92kg. A metre tall, so the canopy starts higher and carries over a fence line from day one.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Glass-reinforced concrete, cast and hand finished. It shrugs off knocks that crack ordinary pots, and tone varies slightly between pieces.

Outdoors. The sprayed finishes are backed by the 15 year Weathershield guarantee. We do not publish a frost rating, so in hard frosting districts keep the planter raised and the mix draining.

Drainage. Cast with drainage holes. Keep them clear and raise the planter on feet so water escapes, then screen the holes with fibreglass flyscreen, not fabric or geofabric, which clogs. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel and a premium potting mix, never garden soil.

What to expect when it arrives

Planters ship empty and packed to travel, delivered Australia wide. Raw concrete is dispatched in 2 to 5 business days; sprayed colours are made to order, so allow 2 to 3 weeks. Set the 90 x 90 x 100cm planter in place before you fill it, and check the load rating on a deck.
