Yes. StoneLite, GRC and Terrazzo pots can be custom sprayed in almost any Dulux or Colorbond colour for an extra $60. Contact us before ordering.

The Pompeii Hive Planter is the tall, shouldered form in the Pompeii range, made from hand crafted, double fired ceramic in the same black and white volcanic texture. It comes in three sizes, 47 x 55cm, 70 x 67cm and 93 x 80cm, quoted as outside dimensions. Each stands as tall as it is wide or taller, which makes it the piece to reach for when a garden needs height.

  • Height without a plinth. At 55cm to 80cm tall the pot does the lifting, so a modest plant sits at eye level.
  • Depth for a long term planting. Deep enough to hold a shrub or small tree for years, not a season of colour.
  • Hand finished volcanic texture. The surface differs on every piece, which matters more at this scale.
  • Drainage holes as standard. A tall pot holds a large volume of mix, and that volume has to drain.

Sizes and what fits in them

  • 47 x 55cm. The entry size and still substantial. A clipped shrub, a strappy leaf plant, or 300mm stock.
  • 70 x 67cm. Genuine tree planter volume: a small feature tree, an olive, a palm, or a mature shrub.
  • 93 x 80cm. The largest, and built landscape rather than a pot. Use it as a single focal point at an entry or terrace, planted once and left.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Hand crafted, double fired ceramic. Each planter is finished individually, so the pattern varies between pieces.

Outdoors. This is an outdoor planter. We do not rate the range as frost proof, so keep it out of the coldest, most exposed positions. Indoors it would need a saucer, but at 80cm tall it belongs outside.

Drainage. It has drainage holes, and they have to stay clear. Raise it on feet, cover the holes with one layer of fibreglass flyscreen (never fabric or geofabric, both clog), add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then fill with premium potting mix rather than garden soil. Choose plants suited to containers, since aggressive roots damage any planter given long enough.
