The GARDENA StarCut Pro L is a telescopic tree pruning lopper for high branches, adjusting from 175cm to 400cm for an overall reach of about 6.5m depending on your height. A metal gear train gives what GARDENA rates as up to 12 times more cutting power, taking bypass cuts through branches up to 32mm. It is made in Germany and carries a 25 year warranty.

What it does

  • Reach of about 6.5m from the ground. The telescopic pole runs from 175cm to 400cm, so the working height changes with the job, not with your footing on a ladder.
  • Geared cutting through 32mm. Metal gears multiply your pull, rated at up to 12 times more cutting power, driving a 40mm bypass blade through branches up to 32mm.
  • Blades that stay clean and sharp. Precision ground PowerCoated steel reduces friction through the cut and resists corrosion, so sap does not build into drag.
  • Built for overhead work. The rotating head sets the cutting angle, the compact head shape resists snagging in dense growth, and a shock absorbing bumper takes the jolt out of the closing cut.

How to use it

Extend only the length the branch needs, because a shorter pole is steadier overhead. Stand out of the fall line, rotate the head so the blade meets the branch just outside the collar, and pull in a smooth stroke rather than a snatch. Take a heavy limb off in sections from the outside in, so the final cut carries almost no weight and the bark does not tear.

Wipe the blades clean and dry after use and store the lopper somewhere dry. Check the telescopic locks and the blade edge periodically, since a loose lock is the first thing to go.

Use on tall trees and orchards. Regular canopy work on established trees, fruit tree maintenance and clearing growth over a roof or a boundary.
