The Cyclone 3 Prong Lawn Aerator pulls plugs of soil out of a compacted lawn so water, air and fertiliser reach the root zone instead of running off. It is a manual all-steel tool with three side eject coring tines, measuring 405mm wide, 1060mm long and 28mm deep. If your lawn has gone hard underfoot, this is the job to do before spending money on top dressing or seed.

What it does

  • Three side eject coring tines. It lifts cores out and ejects them from the side, so compaction is genuinely relieved rather than pushed sideways the way a solid spike does.
  • Extra wide non-slip stirrup. A broad foot tread drives the tines to depth with body weight instead of arm strength, and keeps your boot where you put it.
  • All-steel construction. Steel through the shaft and tines, with PVC comfort grips on the handle, backed by Cyclone's lifetime guarantee.

How to use it

Aerate when the soil is moist but not waterlogged. Dry ground will not let the tines in, and saturated ground smears instead of coring, so water the lawn the day before if there has been no rain. Set the tines, step onto the stirrup, drive the head in with your weight, then lift and move on. Space the holes evenly and pay extra attention to the tracks that get walked on. Leave the cores to break down on the surface, or rake them up first if you are about to top dress.

Clear soil off the tines before it sets hard inside them, and store the tool dry.

What it suits

Home lawns that have gone hard. Worn tracks across the grass, water running off after a shower, thin patches where the traffic is heaviest. Those are compaction symptoms, and coring is the fix.

Soil repair in garden beds. The same coring action opens heavy soil before feeding or planting. Delivered Australia wide, with delivery from $29.95.

Not built for large areas. This is a manual tool with three tines. A suburban back lawn is a genuine afternoon of work, and acreage calls for a towed or powered corer.
