The Rust Harper Trough is a 450mm composite trough in a warm rust finish, 220mm wide and 220mm tall, holding roughly 18 to 20 litres of mix. That is a real planting volume rather than a windowbox, and at 4kg empty it is light enough to carry up a stairwell to a balcony. Buy it when you want a run of herbs or clipped foliage with clean rectangular lines.

  • Takes 140mm to 180mm nursery pots. Two or three plants at that grade sit comfortably along its length.
  • Best planted with herbs, succulents and compact flowering plants. Anything that stays under about 40cm and does not need a deep tap root.

Material, weathering and drainage

Material. Composite, finished in rust with a light texture. Minor variation in that texture between troughs is normal and is part of the finish, not a fault.

Outdoors. Weather resistant and made for outdoor use year round, and it is built to hold its appearance rather than patina further. We rate it weather resistant, not frost proof, so cold inland gardens should site it with that in mind.

Drainage. A drainage hole is built into the base and no liner or insert is required. Indoors or on a finished surface, use a saucer.
