The GARDENA StarCut Pro S is a fixed length tree pruning lopper on a 160cm pole, giving an overall reach of about 3.5m depending on your height. The metal gear head is rated by GARDENA at up to 12 times more cutting power, and the bypass blade takes branches up to 32mm. It is made in Germany and backed by a 25 year warranty.

What it does

  • Reach of about 3.5m. A 160cm pole covers the branches sitting above a lopper and below a full telescopic pruner.
  • Geared cutting through 32mm. Metal gears multiply your pull, rated at up to 12 times more cutting power, driving a 40mm bypass blade through living wood up to 32mm.
  • PowerCoated steel blades. Precision ground and coated to reduce friction through the cut and resist rust.
  • Head that rotates up to 200 degrees. You set the cutting angle to suit the branch, and a shock absorbing bumper takes the jolt as the blade closes.

How to use it

Stand out of the fall line, bring the head up and rotate it until the blade sits just outside the collar at the base of the branch, then pull in one steady stroke. Shorten a heavy limb in stages from the tip inwards, so the last cut carries no weight and the bark does not tear down the trunk.

Wipe the blades clean and dry after use, then store the lopper in a dry place. Check the blade edge and the rotating head periodically, and oil the pivot if the action stiffens.

What it suits

Use on small and medium trees. Routine canopy work, deadwooding and shaping fruit trees, where the cuts sit a metre or two above your head.
